POLICE OFFICER
The Town of Jupiter Inlet Colony is seeking a full-time police officer. The Town of Jupiter Inlet Colony is a residential oasis in northern Palm Beach County. Surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean, Jupiter Inlet, the Loxahatchee River, and the Indian River, it is a serene community of 236 households and 405 residents (U.S. Census 2020). Incorporated in 1959, the Town is approximately 0.2 square miles and maintains eight streets.
The ideal candidate will have experience in coastal and/or small communities. A background in community policing is a plus. The Jupiter Inlet Colony Police Department has a force of 8 full-time and 4 part-time police officers, operating through a 12-hour shift schedule. The Town offers a 401a with a 12% employer contribution, health/dental/vision insurance, life insurance, short-term disability, and paid time-off. Opportunities exist for off-duty details. The starting salary is $67,704.00.
Summary of Responsibilities and Duties
• Ensuring the safety or residents and visitors.
• Answering calls, patrolling both on foot and in a vehicle, to include the beach areas when necessary.
• Traffic enforcement, including safeguarding safety of pedestrians.
• Conducting preliminary investigations of complaints or incidents.
• Preparation of written communications including forms and reports.
• Comply with Department rules, regulations, and policies and all Federal, State, and Municipal laws that govern the activities of Police Officers.
Position Requirements
• High school diploma or GED
• Three to Five (3 to 5) years previous experience and/or training that includes law enforcement, patrol work, training, or any equivalent combination of education, training, and related experience
• Completion of basic police officer training program
• Must have critical thinking, complex problem solving, judgement and decision-making skills along with active learning and understanding the implications of actions and new information, resolving conflicts, influencing others, negotiating skills, organizational awareness, service orientation, and social perceptiveness are all required for this role.
• Must possess and maintain valid FDLE Florida Police Officer certification.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver’s license.
