Media Statement from the Florida Police Chiefs Association on Dallas Tragedy
Tallahassee, FL – The Florida Police Chiefs Association today released the following statement in the aftermath of the Dallas tragedy from Association President Brett Railey, Chief of Police for Winter Park:
“We are deeply saddened by the tragedy that unfolded last night in Dallas, TX. This appalling and cowardly act of violence endangered the lives of both citizens and members of the greater Dallas law enforcement community, killing five police officers and wounding seven more. These officers were simply doing their jobs, protecting the rights of people to peacefully assemble and disagree. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and agency personnel of these officers as well as the citizens who were injured in this senseless incident.
“Our police officers are charged with protecting the safety of our citizens, which can often be a very dangerous, and sometimes deadly task. While there is no justification for what occurred last night, the only way we can be effective moving forward is by continuing to work together with our community partners in support of each other as we strive diligently to strengthen relationships between police and those we serve.
“As incidents of violence ripple across our nation, we implore the citizens of Florida to continue to work with us to keep our communities safe. We are all stronger as we work together for a safer Florida.”
