Chief McGovern began his career with the Boca Raton Police Department (BRPD) in 1994, serving in various assignments, including officer, Tactical Team officer, detective, sergeant, lieutenant, captain, and commander of the SWAT Team. He retired from BRPD on March 29, 2024, and started at TSC on April 1.
The Chicago native earned a bachelor’s degree in law enforcement administration at Western Illinois University and a master’s degree in criminal justice from Lynn University. He received the Officer of the Year Award, Meritorious Award, an Officer of the Month Award, an Officer of the Quarter Award, and a Chief’s Special Recognition Award. He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy, class #282. He served in the United States Marine Corps Reserve from 1991-1997. He is a member of several professional organizations, including the International Association of Chiefs of Police and Florida Police Chiefs Association. He has led numerous deployments for hurricane assistance throughout Florida during his law enforcement career.
