Job Title: Lieutenant of Patrol

Responsibilities:
Manages all areas within the law enforcement Operations including overseeing the uniform patrol operations.
Assists the Captain of Operations with overseeing the Uniform Police Operations Section (Patrol), motor unit, bike unit, and the K-9 Unit. Manages and coordinates one rotation (a day shift and a night shift) of shift supervisors and officers regarding day-to-day operations as well as overall comprehensive planning efforts. Reviews police reports and body/dash camera footage. Coordinates with the Special Operations Lieutenant regarding the assignment, placement and specific details of special events security details or VIP protection. Responsible for the pursuit, apprehension, and arrest of law violators or suspended law violators as required.
Serves as a member of the University Police Department’s Command Staff. Assists the Captain of Operations with analyzing and recommending policies for the FSU Police Department. Assists with implementing the department’s policies and procedures through the efforts of subordinate personnel. Responsible for completing and assisting with annual reports such as Board of Governors Report, SACS annual Report and other reports requested by the Chief or Deputy Chief. Responsible for maintaining files to assist the Accreditation Manager; NARCAN Assignments, Pursuit Memorandums, Operations Bulletins, Crash Review Memorandums, Daily Assignment Rosters, Weekly Activity Report, Operations Bulletins, Officer Discipline, Winter Break Statistics and Football Game Law Enforcement Activity Statistics.
Assists in monitoring and planning for proper budget utilization, allocation of personnel, supplies and equipment to include locker keys/locks and mailboxes.
Assists the Captain of Operations with establishing joint initiatives with University Departments, local law enforcement agencies, social service agencies and general public special interest groups.
Responsible for the repairs and maintenance of the FSU Police Department Vehicle Fleet and equipment. Responsible for constant communications with the fleet manager to ensure vehicles are being properly serviced. Review all purchases with P-Card made by subordinates.
Supervises reporting USPS staff; completes employee performance evaluations, provides opportunities for professional development, and assists with hiring processes. Assists the Captain of Operations, Deputy Chief and Chief of Police with special assignments as requested.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree and four years of experience of sworn law enforcement; or a high school diploma or equivalent and eight years of experience of sworn law enforcement. (Note: a combination of post high school education and experience equal to eight years.)

• A valid Florida driver’s license or the ability to obtain prior to hire
Considerations:
This is an A&P position.
This position requires successful completion of a criminal history background check.
Special events may be required. Day and evening hours are required.
This position qualifies for special risk benefits and classification under applicable retirement or insurance programs. Final approval for special risk benefits is subject to Florida Retirement System review and approval.
