FLORIDA POLICE CHIEFS ANNOUNCE NEW LEADERSHIP FOR 2017/2018
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida Police Chiefs Association (FPCA) today announced that Chief Kevin Lystad of the Miami Shores Police Department was installed yesterday as the President of the Association for 2017/2018. Chief Kevin Lystad was sworn in as the new President during the FPCA’s 65th Annual Installation and Awards Banquet in Doral and announced his plans to prioritize the safety, health and wellbeing of Florida’s police officers during his year of leadership.
“Our officers work tireless every day to protect our residents, and I intend to work just as hard to take care of their needs,” said Chief Lystad.
Chief Lystad was appointed the ninth Chief of the Miami Shores Police Department in March 2006. He is currently a member of the Dade-Miami Criminal Justice Council and the Executive Board of the Regional Domestic Security Task Force, and he has served as president of the Miami Dade County Association of Chiefs of Police. A graduate of the FBI National Academy, FBI LEEDS (Law Enforcement Executive Development Seminar) program, the Southern Police Institute’s Command Officer Development Course and the Florida Police Chiefs Association’s Future Police Chiefs training program, Chief Lystad also holds a bachelor’s degree in computer science from Barry University and a master’s degree in criminal justice from American Military University.
The Association’s 2016/2017 president, Coconut Creek Police Chief Butch Arenal, became the Immediate Past President of the Association. In addition to Chief Lystad, the following individuals were sworn in or appointed to the FPCA Executive Board:

– 3rd Vice President: Chief Chris Nelson, Auburndale Police Department

– Parliamentarian: Chief Philip Thorne, Springfield Police Department
The FPCA has 17 districts throughout the state of Florida to provide support to its members. The following directors have been elected or re-elected to office this year:
