The City of Lynn Haven is seeking an experienced and dynamic leader to serve as our Police Chief. The ideal candidate will have an executive-level background in law enforcement and executive experience, with a proven track record of effective leadership and strategic decision-making.
Responsibilities
– Oversee the day-to-day operations of the police department, including patrol, investigations, and administrative functions.
– Develop and implement departmental policies, procedures, and programs in compliance with city, county, state, and federal regulations and policies to ensure the safety and security of the community.
– Provide leadership and guidance to department personnel, including training, mentoring, and performance evaluations.
– Collaborate with city officials, community leaders, and other law enforcement agencies to address public safety concerns and promote positive community relations.
– Manage the department budget and resources to ensure efficient, effective, and appropriate use of funds.
– Stay current on developments in law enforcement practices, technology, and legislation, and implement necessary changes to keep the department in compliance with best practices, city policies, and legal requirements.
– Serve as the public face of the police department, representing the department at community events, public meetings, and media appearances.
– Handle critical incidents and emergencies, providing strong and decisive leadership to ensure the safety and well-being of the community.
Qualifications
– Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, law enforcement, public administration, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
– Minimum of 10 years of law enforcement experience, with at least 5 years in a command level.
– Executive experience in a law enforcement agency, with a proven track record of effective leadership and strategic decision-making.
– Strong knowledge of law enforcement practices, procedures, and regulations in Florida, including knowledge of Law Enforcement accreditation standards and practices.
– Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain positive relationships with diverse stakeholders.
– Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate a team, fostering a positive and inclusive work environment.
– Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills, with the ability to handle high-pressure situations and make sound judgments.
– Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
– Certification as a Florida certified law enforcement officer and the ability to pass a thorough background check and drug screening.
