The Lieutenant / Deputy Chief is a senior command-level position responsible for the administration, supervision, and operational leadership of the Northwest Florida State College Police Department. This position ensures a safe, secure, and welcoming learning environment across all NWFSC campuses and facilities, including athletic venues, residence-related activities, and the Mattie Kelly Arts Center.
The Deputy Chief assists the Chief of Police in strategic planning, policy development, accreditation readiness, emergency management, and daily operations, and serves as the acting Chief of Police in the Chief’s absence.
Leadership & Administration
Assists the Chief of Police in the overall management and strategic direction of the NWFSC Police Department.
Assumes command authority and decision-making responsibilities in the absence of the Chief of Police.
Provides leadership, supervision, and professional development for assigned personnel.
Conducts and oversees annual performance evaluations and ensures accountability, discipline, and professionalism.
Makes recommendations regarding hiring, promotions, commendations, corrective actions, and separations.
Operations & Campus Safety
Oversees day-to-day law enforcement and security operations across multiple campuses in two counties.
Ensures adequate staffing, scheduling, and deployment of sworn officers, part-time officers, and campus security personnel.
Coordinates law enforcement coverage for major athletic events, championship-level competitions, and events at the Mattie Kelly Arts Center.
Oversees patrol operations, investigations, traffic enforcement, parking enforcement, escorts, and emergency response.
Reviews and approves incident reports, arrest affidavits, and investigative documentation.
Emergency Management & Preparedness
Serves as a key leader in emergency management planning, incident command, and critical incident response.
Works collaboratively with NWFSC leadership during emergencies, natural disasters, and major incidents.
Oversees emergency notification systems, life safety initiatives, and campus-wide preparedness training.
May serve in an Incident Command System (ICS) leadership role during emergencies.
Training & Professional Standards
Develops, coordinates, and oversees training programs to ensure compliance with:
Florida Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission (CJSTC) requirements
Annual in-service training
Firearms qualifications
First Aid/CPR/AED certifications
Manages departmental training records through the Automated Training Management System (ATMS).
Ensures certified instructors and training staff remain current and compliant.
Policy, Compliance & Reporting
Assists in the development, review, and implementation of departmental policies, procedures, and directives.
Ensures compliance with federal, state, local, and College regulations, including Clery Act-related safety functions.
Gathers data, prepares reports, and provides statistical and operational analysis to NWFSC leadership as required.
Supports accreditation, audits, and external reviews as applicable.
Budget & Resources
Assists the Chief in the preparation, management, and monitoring of the department’s operating budget.
Oversees inventory control, equipment issuance, vehicle inspections, and maintenance schedules.
Ensures departmental resources are deployed efficiently and responsibly.
Interagency & Campus Collaboration
Serves as a liaison with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies, fire departments, EMS, and emergency management partners.
Builds strong working relationships with NWFSC administrators, faculty, staff, students, and community stakeholders.
Represents the Police Department on College committees and at community meetings as assigned.

Requirements:
Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible full-time law enforcement experience.
At least two (2) years in a supervisory role.
Meets all requirements of Florida Statutes Chapter 943.13 for law enforcement officers
Valid Florida driver’s license.
Current First Aid, CPR, and AED certification, or ability to obtain within 12 months.
Ability to work flexible schedules, including nights, weekends, special events, and emergencies.
Ability to be designated as Essential Personnel during emergencies.
