
Chief Michael J. Key Jr. was appointed as the seventh Chief of Police for the Neptune Beach Police Department on August 1, 2023. He began his career in public service at 16 as a junior volunteer firefighter, shifting to law enforcement at 19 as a reserve officer. He has held the ranks of Sergeant, Lieutenant, and Commander; leading all divisions within the agency. Chief Key is a 2017 FBI National Academy graduate (Class #268) and holds a bachelor’s in criminal justice (Homeland Security focus) plus a Graduate Certificate in Criminal Justice Education from the University of Virginia.
