Chief Barry Roberts’ longstanding commitment to law enforcement and community service is evident in his extensive career and personal life. Born in Central Pennsylvania, he relocated to Panama City, Florida, at a young age. He pursued higher education at Chipola Junior College and Gulf Coast State College, where he continues to contribute as an adjunct instructor.
Beginning his law enforcement career in 1995, Chief Roberts joined the Springfield Police Department in 1998. He was appointed Chief of Police in October 2017. Since 2008, he has been an active member of the Florida Police Chiefs Association (FPCA), currently representing District 10. In 2024 he was appointed to represent the FPCA on the State Emergency Response Commission.
On the personal front, Chief Roberts has been married to his wife, Pam, for over 25 years. They have three children—Marcus, Barry, and Brianna—all of whom have pursued careers in public safety. The couple also enjoys the company of their two granddaughters, who keep them both busy.
