FLORIDA POLICE CHIEFS CONDEMN SHOOTINGS, CALL FOR PEACE
TALLAHASSEE, FL – The Florida Police Chiefs Association today released the following statement from President Brett Railey, Chief of Police in Winter Park:
“We are grieving today – we grieve for the families of the officers who were slain and those who were injured, we grieve for the Baton Rouge Police Department, and we grieve for the thousands of men and women who put on their uniforms today and wondered if somebody would turn against them and cost them their lives.
“These acts of senseless violence targeting our police officers are vicious. So many of our police officers are peaceful – they love their communities, they are brave, and they are our protectors. And now they’re being gunned down because of hate and fear.
“Our society cannot function without law enforcement who will protect us. We need to put aside our anger and our prejudice and we need to fight for peace. Without an end to the terrible divides, violence and mistrust, our society will fail.”
