The City of Bartow, Florida is located in Polk County, Central Florida. It is located south of Lakeland, within easy driving distance of Orlando, Tampa, and the Gulf beaches. The current population is nearly 21,000 and is expected to reach almost 44,000 residents by the year 2030. Bartow is a full-service City providing all traditional municipal services including electric, water, wastewater, storm water, fiber-optic internet, and public safety. Services are provided by a workforce of 280 employees funded by a $108.6M budget, including balances and reserves. Led by Bartow’s International Baccalaureate High School, two magnet schools; its public schools have consistently ranked among the best nationally. The City of Bartow Police Department is seeking an experienced professional with proven leadership, management and communication skills including extensive knowledge of law enforcement practices for the position of Captain. This position plays a key role in the Administrative Section with planning and control of police operations to include the Patrol Section, School Resource Officer Section and training. The Patrol Captain is expected to enforce the ordinances and laws of the State of Florida. The Bartow Police Department is comprised of 47 sworn members and 25 non-sworn members. The agency provides law enforcement services for a full- time population of approximately 21,000 residents. The Bartow Police Department is a full-service agency comprised of dispatch, patrol, detectives, parking enforcement, community services, school resource and crime scene investigations with an annual operating budget of approximately $7.5M. This position reports directly to the Deputy Chief of Police.
This position requires graduation from an accredited college or university with 7 years of progressive experience in the supervision of law enforcement personnel, and Florida Law Enforcement Certification. All candidates will be required to pass a background investigation, psychological evaluation, medical exam, and a CVSA (lie detector test).
