Position: Law Enforcement Liaison
UNF Position Number: 420150The Institute of Police Technology and Management at the University of North Florida is currently seeking qualified applicants for the position of Law Enforcement Liaison serving the West Central District of Florida and based in the FDOT District.
Job Duties Include:
Position functions as a liaison amongst law enforcement agencies, traffic safety partners, and organizations within the assigned area of responsibility (AOR) to promote/coordinate their involvement in traffic safety programs/initiatives. Prepare and conduct training sessions and presentations regarding traffic issues and safety campaigns. Organize, coordinate, and/or promote enforcement functions, press conferences, safety events, workshops, awards programs, and Local Area Network (LAN) meetings. Distribute equipment, promotional items, and educational materials. Develop and maintain contact lists and relevant information. Maintain promotional, educational, and equipment item inventories and distribution records. Prepare subgrant and activity reports as well as university, state, and federally required paperwork. Attend local, regional, state, and national functions. Prepare and distribute certificates and written correspondence and other duties as assigned. Applicant may be required to lift materials more than twenty (20) lbs. Applicant must be able to remain in a seated position for extended periods of time for purposes of travel as required. During a declared emergency, this position may require the applicant to perform specific job-related duties at a designated off-site location or place of residence.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree from an acceptable accredited institution and nine years of sworn law enforcement experience; or High School Diploma and thirteen years of sworn law enforcement experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of highway/roadway safety issues and at least five years (5) years of experience working with traffic safety programs and campaigns. Basic capabilities in a PC environment and proficient with word processing, database management and spreadsheet software. Knowledge of project development, research methods, data collection, and interpretation. The applicant must have a positive, outgoing, and initiative-taking personality. Strong organizational skills with the ability to track/accomplish multiple tasks simultaneously and excellent time management skills. Strong oral, presentation, and written communication skills. Ability to prepare correspondence and administrative reports. Ability to work cohesively in a team environment as well as independently depending on task requirements. Knowledge of Florida state statutes governing all pedestrian and vehicular traffic (motorized or other). Ability to critically assess situations and make sound judgments. Experience in facilitating teaching/training. Field Training Officer Certification or experience in the program. Instructor Technique Workshop or equivalent courses. This position is recognized as highly traffic oriented and therefore five (5) years of traffic safety focused experience is preferred. Though not expressly designated as “Traffic Unit” self or department-initiated training in curriculum such as ARIDE, DRE, FDLE sponsored courses can be accepted towards criteria of specialized traffic enforcement.
Additional Requirements:
The Area of Responsibility (AOR) for this position is FDOT District 7 which encompasses the Florida counties of Citrus, Hernando, Hillsborough, Pasco, and Pinellas, plus the two additional counties of Lake and Sumter. The position requires a flexible work schedule with occasional evening and weekend work and travel. This position provides an assigned state vehicle for travel within the assigned AOR. Upon appointment, incumbent must reside within the assigned AOR.
This position requires a background check. In conjunction with the University’s policy, this position may also require a credit check. A valid driver license and satisfactory driving record that will enable coverage under the Institute’s fleet insurance policy is required. As this is a law enforcement affiliated position, it should be noted that all candidates must not possess any felonious convictions that would prevent involvement with law enforcement agencies and that any reflection of separation between an individual and agency is not of any moral turpitude under state statute.
