|The City of Fernandina Beach Police Department, located 30 miles north of Jacksonville, Florida on beautiful Amelia Island, serves a population of approximately 11,000 residents. The City has a land area of just over 12 square miles and has seen rapid growth and increased tourism in the past decade. The department is comprised of a Police Chief, Deputy Chief, three police captains, seven police lieutenants, four police sergeants, six detectives, two SRO’s, thirteen officers, and five civilian employees. Police dispatch is performed by Nassau County. The department has an annual budget of $5.5 million.
The City is seeking a forward thinking Chief of Police who will engage the community at every opportunity, while developing an organizational culture that embraces inclusion and transparency. Strong leadership in motivating employees to achieve their highest level of performance is essential. Must be able to interact and communicate effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization, other government agencies, and the public.
Florida Law Enforcement Certification (or the ability to obtain Florida Law Enforcement Certification within two months of the first scheduled exam) and valid Florida Driver’s License required. Successful completion of the FBI National Academy (FBINA) and the Senior Management Institute for Police (SMIP) preferred.
Hiring Salary Range: $120,000 to $130,000 based on qualifications.
