    Benefits:
    The Police Department furnishes major medical insurance to it's employees free; medical insurance is available to dependents at the employees cost. Uniforms, Duty Gear, and Dry Cleaning are provided by the department. 12 days annual leave and 12 days of sick leave per year that increases with years of service.

    Other benefits include the following:
    Individually assigned vehicles with take home privilege if residing within the county, tuition reimbursement, opportunities for off duty employment, and department overtime. A retirement program that includes vested retirement, after 10 years, 37.5% at 15 years, 60% at 20 years, and 80% at 30 years.

Must pass oral board interview; complete polygraph, drug, medical and psychological testing; and pass a thorough background investigation.

    Lateral Pay Plan is available for Pre-Certified Applicants.

    EDUCATION:

    • High School Diploma or Florida approved GED.
    • Completion of minimum standard courses set by Florida Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission prior to being certified as a Police Officer or attendance at a certified police academy.
    • Prefer supplemented college credits in a discipline recognized by the Florida Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission.

    QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Ability to understand the principles and practices of police work and to understand and enforce laws and ordinances relating to police work.
    • Ability to observe situations objectively and to report them clearly and completely.
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public.
    • Background and personal history standards as established by the Florida Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission.
    • Possession of a Valid Florida Operator or Chauffeur License.
    • Requires a high degree of physical fitness and extreme physical exertion.
